5 Letter Word Finder

Got five spaces and only a few letters to work with? Enter what you know and narrow the list using positions, starting or ending letters, included letters and exclusions.

LetterTrove uses one general English word list — a filtered version of dwyl/english-words (words_alpha.txt), derived from the Moby/Infochimps English word data, kept to lowercase words of 2–12 letters. Common, recognisable words are listed first within each length group, and two-letter results are limited to recognised everyday English. We don’t claim every entry is common modern English or valid in any particular word game. See the About page for full source details.

How to use the 5 Letter Word Finder

  1. Add any filters you know: starts with, ends with, contains or excludes.
  2. Use the pattern box with ? for position clues, e.g. ?r??e.
  3. Press Find words — every result is exactly five letters long.

When to use this instead of the Word Finder

This finder is locked to exactly five letters, so you can skip the length field and go straight to the clues you have. Use the pattern box for position hints (?r??e), and exclude letters you know are out.

Reach for the general Word Finder when the length isn’t five, or when you want to search across several lengths at once.

  • LetterTrove’s list is general English, not a specific game’s answer list, so a word accepted by a particular game may not appear here.
