Words Starting With
Enter one letter or a whole prefix and see the words that begin with it. Add an exact length to narrow things down — useful for alliteration, naming and puzzles.
LetterTrove uses one general English word list — a filtered version of dwyl/english-words (words_alpha.txt), derived from the Moby/Infochimps English word data, kept to lowercase words of 2–12 letters. Common, recognisable words are listed first within each length group, and two-letter results are limited to recognised everyday English. We don’t claim every entry is common modern English or valid in any particular word game. See the About page for full source details.
How to use the Words Starting With
- Type the starting letters, e.g. qu or str.
- Optionally set an exact word length.
- Press Find words to list the matches, longest first.
What “starts with” matches
Starts with matches from the very first letter, so “pre” returns every word that opens with those three letters in order — preview, prepare, present. A single letter works too: “q” lists the q-words.
Add an exact length to keep the list manageable. For words that must contain letters anywhere inside, use Words Containing; for full multi-filter searches, use the Word Finder.
