Words Containing
Enter a letter sequence and get the words that contain it in that exact order — anywhere in the word. Useful for puzzles, vocabulary building and settling spelling debates.
LetterTrove uses one general English word list — a filtered version of dwyl/english-words (words_alpha.txt), derived from the Moby/Infochimps English word data, kept to lowercase words of 2–12 letters. Common, recognisable words are listed first within each length group, and two-letter results are limited to recognised everyday English. We don’t claim every entry is common modern English or valid in any particular word game. See the About page for full source details.
How to use the Words Containing
- Type the letters the word must contain, e.g. xq or ough.
- Optionally set an exact word length.
- Press Find words to list the matches.
What “contains” matches
Contains looks for your letter sequence anywhere inside the word, in order — not necessarily at the start or end. So “art” matches cart, artist and party.
Add an exact length to keep the list focused. If you need position clues (a letter third from the left), use the Pattern Finder with ? wildcards instead.
- A single letter works too — “z” lists every word with a z in it.
